Tumbling is a form of gymnastics performed without props or equipment. Common moves performed in tumbling include flips, cartwheels, somersaults, tucks, handstands and handsprings.  In this intro class we will using the beginning equipment to enhance their knowledge, growth, flexibility, strength and confidence.  They will start with the different stations to learn the basic gymnastic technique; balance beam, cheese mats, mailbox blocks, hexagon, cartwheel helper mat, handstand helper mat, monkey bar (just one), and springboard.  Other items may be used as props to also support their understanding and growth in this sport/art form.  This class is the best place to start for young movers and helps with early coordination as they begin their dance or gymnastics journey.

Tiny Tumblers

Tuesdays 2-2:45pm (ages 3-6)

Experienced participants will gain the strength and skills they need by first using props and equipment to support their growth and learning in the world of gymnastics.  They will do exercises to develop or display basic physical agility and coordination on uneven bars, balance beam, floor, vaulting horse, uneven and parallel bars, rings, floor, and pommel horse.  This class is designed to teach basic trampoline, tumbling, flexibility and motor skills while having fun. Children will also build self-confidence, learn to interact with others, and follow directions.  (feeds into the gymnastics program)

Gymnastics

Tuesdays 4-5pm (ages 5-11)

This class exercises developing or displaying physical agility and coordination. The modern sport of gymnastics typically involves exercises on uneven bars, balance beam, floor, and vaulting horse (for women), and horizontal and parallel bars, rings, floor, and pommel horse (for men).  We do seasonal shows demonstrating skills and routines that we have been working to pass off.  It is fun and a chance to progress on a non-competitive level.  This program builds off the tumbling program first which begins on the different stations with the helper blocks first until they are ready to dive into the skill without the help.

Hip-Hip/Breakdance

Thursdays 5:30-6:30pm (ages 5-11)

A boys and girls Break-dance, hip-hop, freestyle, tumbling & improv club.  The words ‘Break Boy and Break Girl’ originated from the Bronx of New York. In the early 70’s they would play the ‘breaks’ of songs.  Meaning, they would only play parts of the songs where it was beat only, no lyrics. This would excite the people to dance. So in turn girls and guys who danced to these ‘breaks’ were called ‘Break Boy and Break Girl’ or ‘B-Boy; B-Girl’ in short.  B-Boys (for the most part) incorporated martial art stunts to ‘wow’ the crowds. And today b-boying has evolved into a highly demanding dance physically and mentally. With massive b-boy dance competitions being held around the world, these young ones will be in for one sweet treat as we train them how to Break-dance to songs containing drum breaks, especially in hip-hop, funk, soul music and break beat music, although modern trends allow for much wider varieties of music along certain ranges of tempo and beat patterns!

Ballroom

Open to Fridays for Private Lessons or to start a class (any age)

Formal social dancing in couples.  The ballroom dance repertoire includes dances developed from old European folk dances and Latin American dances such as the samba, paso doble, swing, rumba, and cha-cha, foxtrot, quickstep, waltz, viennese waltz, and tango.  In this class we do a rotation of each genre focusing on having fun but also mastering the proper technique.  We even like to throw different social club dances from the eras in there to switch it up such as charleston, hustle, and many more.  Currently we are doing Theatre Arts full of fun lifts for the kids.

Joy School

Open to Weekdays 9-10am (ages 2-6)

Tumbling/Dance to follow each day 10-10:45am

The central belief of Joy School (Ages 2-5) is simply that children, while in their most impressionable years, should be taught life’s most important thing (various capacities for joy).  A related belief held by Joy School is that children suffer not from being started in academic learning too late, but in starting too soon, before they have a basis of social and emotional self-esteem.  The overall goal of Joy School is to popularize parenting (give parents more “want-to”) and then to assist parents through the organized “parenting by objective” approach to Joy School (give parents more “how-to”).   We have learned that the program “sells itself” to those  who agree with the thesis that JOY is the most important thing to teach preschoolers.  As a dance studio we focus on teaching the Joy School curriculum through movement.  At times fundamental subjects of school will be incorporated as we move through the space bridging the gap of the arts and those regular day to day subjects.  Letting kids move creatively helps them express that joy for their bodies and surroundings.
